I AM holding on to You

David Crowder Band or Crowder has this song I Am. The refrain has been running through my head since waking up.

I AM
Holding on to youI AM
Holding on to you
In the middle of the storm
I AM
Holding on to you
I AM

I AM
Holding on to you
I  AM
Holding on to you
In the middle of the storm
I AM
Holding on to you
I AM

In part I’m thinking of a very dear friend whose husband recently passed away. I’m thinking of the folks in Oso who lost so many in the mudslide. Most of Nichole’s family has been found.
I think of the disciples in the middle of all their storms.
I think of quilters in the middle of designing/piecing/quilting who just want to give up.
I think of quilters early into their careers when things are just about to get going, not sure where, what and how this will ever grow.
Did I ever mention I love storms? There is something oddly calming about storms. The sound of the rain on the windows. Even when Hurricane Sandy blew through I wasn’t so much bothered by the storm itself as I was by the wind and the potential damage. I haven’t done it in years but I love walking through the rain and jumping in puddles.

Truthfully I’m bothered by the things over which I have no control. Those things – are scary because they are obscured from my sight. It feels like a storm is raging. And yet in the middle of that there is a sense of calm that does envelope, wrapping me up in a quilt of love. The storms remind me how much I need to be grateful, how much I need to trust. How much God loves. That God is holding on.

Happy Quilting!
